A Surprise Visit

The In-Law Visit, 6 x 6, mixed media on board, sold
I was playing around with different characters and these two sweethearts appeared.  I'm having some fun with the idea of these two showing up for a surprise visit.  I just love the way the dad is so nonchalant, lagging back a tad, almost embarrassed and the mom is on a mission to see her son, bag in tow. Just fun stuff, right?

    Gros bisous.

  2. Diana, I am a bug fan of your work and your very interesting blog. I wonder if you would comment on the interesting background texture you achieve. Do you paint over squares of paper? I would so enjoy hearing more about your techniques (if you would like to share).

  3. This is quite different from what I usually see of your work. It looks like you had fun with it, and that is wonderful and the way it should be. I NEVER experience my MIL as fun...

  5. Your latest painting, A Surprise Visit (The In-Laws), is quite atypical. Serendipity? It reminds
me a bit of Paul Cezanne’s Les Joueurs de cartes and/or Les Grandes Baigneuses. Congratz on
    the sale.

P.S. Whenever I pop in here I always feel like a gatecrasher at a Girls Only Party.

  6. Thanks, Jack. I appreciate the comparison. I can't explain the all girl's group except that my subjects appeal more to women and I comment mostly to other women. :) I appreciate your comments and hope you drop by again.
