Catch A Wave

My college daughter, Dana,  had a request for an ocean painting for her room.  As a mom always trying to inspire, I added some subtle inspirational words with Picnik.   Picnik has some very cool fonts, but no arch option.  I will probably add the words on the original with Photoshop, which can arch, later.

Because this is basically done with ripped paper, I wanted the little droplets to be paper, also.  So I used a single hole puncher and hole punched all the droplets.  I had to use an x-acto knife to move the dots around.  Of course, the obvious would have been to splattered some paint, but I wanted to try something different.  It kind of has a fun, festive feel.

Although you can't see it very well, I used pieces of cheese cloth to give texture to the top of the wave. A little gesso was used to soften and pull together different areas.  I'm tempted to do more, but need to think about it carefully at this point.

Dana took "Destiny Awaits", so maybe she'll like this too.

This is SO clever!! I absolutely love it. Using a hole punch to create paper dots...brilliant! Why can't I ever think of these things.
