Kelly mixed media 10" x 13"on watercolor paper |
It's time for Kelly Berkey's Weekly Sketch Challenge. Kelly posted another ballet pose on her blog for anyone wanting to sketch or paint her. This week, I decided to do this painting as a mixed media piece. I've admired artists who mix painting and papers with their figure work and always wanted to try it. I used papers, stamps, watercolor, acrylic, pencil, and gesso. It took a lot longer to do than just paint, because I had to invent the background and not just paint it. You see I can't get away from opera pink and cerulean blue.
I really enjoyed the challenge. You can see the original photo here.

Hi Diana,
This is just lovely! I really like the mixed-media. I have been thinking about adding mixed media to my watercolors too.
You did AMAZING Diana! Wow! I gave it a try this week but mine doesn't even compare to yours. I bet Kelly was so excited to see this. :)
Diana, I love the color you infused. It makes me want to dance. I have spent many times at the barre, and you captured that experience beautifully.
diana, the collage elements really made this painting dramatic! once again i'm in awe of your talent. i was inspired to paint my sketch this week because of you and realized i wasn't ready yet. thanks for keeping us inspired and i really hope you join in again for tomorrow's challenge!
