When I was nosing around Anthropologie last time, I saw this little tiny journal with flowers painted on the cover. It was so simply done, that I thought it might make a nice project for art night to give as a gift for someone.
So, I bought a couple of these journals from the Michael's $2 bin. This way, no harm done if it didn't turn out. Anyway, I decided to try the new technique I learned from Jane DesRosier with something simple like a pear.
I'm pretty amazed at the way it turned out. So full of depth and texture. I love it!
Now look at the inside...
It's brighter and cheaper looking in person. |

LOVE the texture!. I just finished a piece the same way (from Jane's class) with the collaged papers underneath. My favorite part is bringing back some of the original papers again--love this way of making a new painting look aged.
That looks great! the paint/texture...what a great idea...and like the price of the journal...so you could 'play'. =)
Just beautiful texture! I love it. What a great idea for giftgiving. :-)

Diana..Love The Journal Cover And That Texture Process Looks Very Interesting! I Just Shot Over And Checked Out Gritty Jane's Site Thru Your Link. Thanks For Sharing It! I Would So Enjoy Taking Her Next Workshop And I Think I'm Gonna Sign Up. Thank You Sweet Friend For The Nice Compliments On My Mama's Cow. I'm Gonna Tie A Hug Bow Around It And Have It Sitting Next To Her Breakfast On Mother's Day. xoxo Terri
You did a beautiful job with collaging the pear. The more I hear and see results from Jane's class, the more I know I will one day take one. Thanks for posting.
Diana-Oh!!! I LOVE the texture on that pear!! And I just love paintings of pears/apples etc anyways! What a great idea and a great gift! Also love the portrait in your post below. that blue really pops and the texture is amazing. Learning is all about...making mistakes and going with it...so don't be too hard on yourself. I think the whole painting conveys that rocker spirit and energy.
LOL! Make it an art journal and paint over the pages on the inside too. :) I love how the cover came out - you are rocking this new technique!
